No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.

I read the account of a study that a certain seminary conducted with its preaching class. They asked each of the students to prepare a message on the “Good Samaritan” for a radio broadcast. The seminary then arranged for a man to feign a heart attack on the sidewalk in front of the students as they were on their way to preach the sermon. As I remember the story, in every instance the seminary student stepped around the “dying” victim to hasten on to deliver his sermon on the “Good Samaritan.” I must confess that I find the story somewhat believable. 

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

When the world around us seems to be crumbling in chaos, how does God want His children to respond? How does He want you and me to respond?

Which is your favourite Bible promise? That may be a hard question to answer because there are so many of them. The Bible is filled with promises from God.

Today is the day to celebrate love in countries where Valentines Day is observed. The focus of the day is usually on romantic love, which is a very special, exciting, and beautiful expression of love. Such love is certainly worth celebrating, but so are all expressions of love. Love in whatever form is arguably the most powerful force on earth.

What better way to start the new year than to honour the one who gave us time. Time that regulates our whole lives, when we sleep, when we eat, when we work, when we play. Time that we mark with such vigour every 12 months. God, the creator of all things, God who is called the God of the Ages, created time. He put the sun in place to rule the day, and the moon to rule the night “to mark seasons and days and years” Gen 1:14. Who is this God?

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” When King Herod heard this, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. (Matthew 2:1-2)

I lived in Canada for 10 years before returning home to Jamaica. When I left Canada I disposed of all my warm clothes: coat, scarves, boots etc, happy that I would not need those items anymore. Although I liked Canada I didn’t plan to go back during the winter, ever!

For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. Matthew 16:25
